2014/2015 BLOCK OF THE MONTH

We are Elaine Rottman and Bee Saunders, your new Block of the Month coordinators. We both have become interested in the modern quilt movement, with its clean, graphic aesthetic firmly rooted in traditional quilting. We look forward to bringing elements of this look to the Block of the Month patterns for the upcoming year. Each month we will have an easy-to-assemble pattern with clear directions and well-defined suggestions for fabric choices. Many months, we will provide a common background fabric, bringing unity to the blocks.

It is our goal to increase participation in the Block of the Month activity and to bring together sets of blocks that participants will be eager to win and take home and make up into a quilt. Should a winner not want to keep their set of blocks, however, Community Quilts has agreed to accept them to kit and pass along to other guild members.

Rules for participation:

1. All blocks will finish 12".
2. Please follow color instructions carefully.
3. Some months we will supply a Kona white fabric for a common background. If a quilter uses her/his own fabric, it MUST be Kona white. (Not snow or a shade of white; not white by another manufacturer). If a member is not at the meeting, she/he may designate a friend to pick up the background fabric. To begin, we will not charge for the fabric. If we find a major difference between background fabric picked up and the number of blocks turned it, we may turn to a deposit ($1) and refund system (pay a buck to pick up background; it will be refunded when the block is turned in)
4. All blocks will go into the drawing. If a winner does not want the blocks, she/he may request another name be drawn or donate the blocks to Community Quilts.
5. We will not be tracking participation and therefore will not award prizes at the end of the year. The goal is to enjoy trying new techniques and patterns while making the blocks.
