Exhibit of Aboriginal Screen Printed Textiles from Australia's Top End
Presented by Gassia Armenian, Fowler Museum
Friday, June 24, CQG members were treated to a virtual walk-through of this exhibit at the Fowler Museum, led by their curatorial and research associate, Gassia Armenian. She was a co-creator of the exhibit, putting it together with her colleague for over three years, and her enthusiasm and knowledge, sharing stories about how these textiles are created and the artists who make them, captivated those of us who were able to Zoom in. The virtual walk-through was a first for the Fowler and a first for us. Those who attended came away with a deep respect and admiration of the Top End Aboriginal artists and people.
Due to governmental and copyright restrictions, we were unable to record this presentation. There is, however, a beautiful catalogue of the exhibit, and the museum is generously donating a copy of it to our Guild library. The Fowler Museum gift shop also has copies for those who would like one of their own.
This exhibition closes on July 10. Admission is free, the museum is open Weds thru Sunday, 12-5 pm.
